I work the front desk at a small doctor’s office, and I wish people could see what happens on the other side of the phone. Every day, older patients call us confused.

They are told to use the patient portal, upload documents, check lab results online, fill out forms before the visit, and confirm everything through a link. Some of them do not know what a portal is.

Some do not have a smartphone.
Some have one, but they are afraid to click the wrong thing.
Last week, a man in his late 80s called about his test results.

He said, “Ma’am, I don’t mean to bother you, but the computer says I have a message and I don’t know how to open it.”
He sounded ashamed.
That broke my heart.

He should not have to feel ashamed for needing a human being.
Technology can be helpful. I understand that.

But when people who built this country are made to feel helpless because everything became a login and a password, we have gone too far.
Not everything needs to be an app.
Not every answer should be hidden behind a screen.

Sometimes people need a voice.
A patient person.
A real human who says, “Don’t worry, I can help you.”
Progress should not leave seniors behind.

Because one day, the world will move faster than us too.
And I hope someone is kind enough to slow down.

A lot of people have lost the plot due to the overabundance of news on this platform. Here is a digest-sized update on the state of the war to sort things out. Feel free to correct me if I got anything wrong or missed something important.
Gaza: The yellow line continues to shrink, increasing Israel's security zone. The IDF is taking out people who participated in the October 7 attack, as well as commanders and operatives who pose a risk to Israel. Hundreds of trucks enter Gaza every day, flooding it with food and supplies. The armed factions in Gaza are using it to rebuild their military and economic might.
West Bank: The organized resistance has been mostly sent underground. For the first time in over a decade, there isn't a single wanted murderer at large in the region. The majority of violent incidents stem from friction between Jewish homesteaders and Arab villagers as each seek to occupy strategic spots in the hills of Samaria.
Lebanon: Israel is focusing its efforts on the Ali al-Taher ridge, an area north of the Litani where Hezbollah has many tunnels it uses to launch rockets at Israel. According to reports from Lebanon, the ridge has all but fallen to the IDF. In the other areas there is an uneasy truce, which Israel is using to demolish buildings that pose a threat to the IDF.
Syria: Israel engages in mostly symbolic activity to prevent Turkey from getting a foothold in Syria. At the same time, Israeli government officials are directly talking to the Syrian government with the goal of reaching some a security arrangement. Israel still occupies part of Syria as a security zone to prevent militants from launching attacks against Israel and to protect the Druze from another massacre.
Iran: Israel has been relegated to the the role of an observer. Similar to the Tanker Wars of the 80s, the war is growing increasingly cold as it takes on the characteristics of a siege within a siege: Iran is trying to block traffic through the Strait of Hormuz and the US is blocking traffic to Iran. There are occasional small-scale attacks against ships but generally, this is a waiting game.
Yemen: These guys are so occupied with fighting their fellow Arabs, they seem to have forgotten Israel exists. Saudi Arabia started a blockade of Houthi-controlled ports and in response the Houthis started attacking Saudi infrastructure. A plethora of tribes supported by different foreign powers are clashing in the desert. In lieu of going into detail here, I suggest you watch the excellent 2015 Australian film "Mad Max: Fury Road."
