Three weeks of fieldwork in Taichung.
Working under conditions that couldn’t be fully confirmed in advance — re-marking plots, building access paths in flooded paddies, and setting up monitoring systems.

What does enhanced rock weathering look like under real field conditions?
A short video from our ERW paddy field experiment in Yosano, Kyoto — tracking basalt-amended vs control plots and greenhouse gas responses.

Last week, we have started our enhanced rock weathering study in the paddy field in Taichung, Taiwan. This is an international collaboration between Kyoto Prefectural University (KPU), Taiwan Agricultural Research Institute (TARI) and National Chung Hsing University (NCHU).

English summary:
Theoretical soil science interprets observations, systems, and mechanisms.
Applied soil science confronts us with constraints, trade-offs and irreversible consequences.
Thus, soil science progresses when conceptual understanding and practices co-evolve.
/NEW POST/
Soil science often moves along two tracks:
Theory and practical application.
Theory helps us interpret soil formation and processes.
Application reminds us that every intervention carries consequences.
