Neoclouds and AI holdco/ ‘transformation’ funds have one thing in common…
when the capital tide goes out and multiples compress, the only place you want to be invested in is the market leaders.
@stefanobernardi I’ve seen good friends *make the intro* to Tier 1 VCs and, when that VC wins the deal, still get relegated to the cuck tranche for their pro-rata
Really challenging game
@KevinJDCS It feels like the Fund who stepped up to lead a tweener A, when few others wanted to put capital in the company, probably ‘earned’ their pro-rata
Tough to say that says it’s earned *and* the founder chooses
Easier that it’s one or the other
Yeah, I can’t say that I agree with suing your PortCo
Having to deal with investor egos outside of all the normal company building challenges really sucks
VCs should resist temptation to make themselves the main character
Maybe raising more capital or upsizing to a small amount of secondary is the answer… tough one
I don’t blame him… for him, it’s a one time game. He’s being told that he has to create room for big VC named X. Big VC fund X creates a lot of market value
Yet for the smaller seed fund, it’s a iterative game in which they always get screwed
The only way to win is when, in *initial* convo about sizing, founder initially pushes back on VC that “my existing needs X for pro rata”
This almost never happens
If you don’t understand how truly sick this tweet is, switch out Israel for Sandy Hook. Talk about how tragic it is that innocent children were killed in school but then go on about how the mental health crisis that caused Lanza to shoot up the school is the real tragedy.
Will happily take the other side of his bet.
This market is massive. Instinct and Town will do great. Everyone will win (as long as the non-labs can finance buying compute).
Many people don’t want Meta, OpenAI or Anthropic to have more data about them. I am one of them.
I am calling it now. These personal assistants like Instinct and Town are building too close to the sun and will get replaced by tools from the models very soon. Just like coding did.
I gave both of them the same task and also Claude Cowork. Cowork did it better and faster with more tools. These agents are wrappers that are going to have a hard time maintaining value.
