This is How China’s “Influencers” Respect the World
A Chinese blogger called “Liang Man” just went viral for the most shameless stunt of the year:
Chinese “influencer” Liang Man uses Chinese “Hell note” (ancestral offerings) as fake Japanese yen to trick innocent Indonesians into trying to pay at a convenience store. Then he hides, films their humiliation, laughs, and uploads it for clout back home.
This isn’t “funny prank” content. It’s straight-up disrespect — humiliating Indonesians while dragging Japan’s currency through the mud with fake notes associated with death rituals.
One low-effort video = insulting Indonesia’s dignity + smearing Japan’s image + exposing ugly “humor” from some corners of Chinese social media.
What does this say about the kind of “content” that’s getting rewarded in China right now?
Is this creative edginess or just shameless national embarrassment that harms China’s image abroad?
A. Harmless fun
B. Disgusting and damaging

Ultimately, other Chinese will cry foul when people gave them more restrictions when they travel abroad.
