โNo,โ Musk said. โNo. NO.โ There was a long pause.
โNo mirrors, no pedals, no steering wheel. This is me taking responsibility for this decision.โ...
โLet me be clear," he said slowly. โThis vehicle must be designed as a clean Robotaxi. Weโre going to take that risk. Itโs my fault if it fucks up. ...โ
@elonmusk , 2022 โ from @WalterIsaacson biography.
Four years later, that bet looks like it paid off.
โHow long would you want to live?โ
Elon asked the question first, and he kept saying:
โOne of the worst curses you could possibly give anyone would be, โMay you live forever.โ
Then he said the line that actually matters:
โIโve long thought that longevity or semi-immortality is an extremely solvable problem. I donโt think itโs a particularly hard problem.โ
His reason was simple. The body ages in sync. Nobody has an old left arm and a young right arm. So the clock must be obvious.
โThis is the way youโre programmed to die. If you change the program, you will live longer.โ
Bowhead whales get 200 years. Greenland sharks get 500. Why them and not us? Hardware or software โ and the tech to solve it is coming.
The only rule added: donโt die of something stupid before the solution arrives.
Peter Diamandis offered him to upload his full genome. Elon laughed: โDonโt clone me, bro.โ
Too late, they said. Itโs already in the works.๐คฃ
Elon doesnโt want forever. He wants enough time for humans to leave the solar system.๐ซ
What I like about the Cybercab is that it only has two seats. In the eight years I lived in Los Angeles and had a Tesla S, I used four seats twice, and two seats four times. So, most of the time I was driving alone. A smaller car thatโs safe and drives itself wouldโve been fabulous.
