The sheer scale of this US-Iran memorandum is not diplomacy. It is a masterclass in selective amnesia and strategic self-sabotage. Full unfreezing of assets, total lifting of primary and secondary sanctions, a 300 billion dollar reconstruction fund, immediate removal of naval blockade, and a UN Security Council resolution to lock it all in. In exchange, Iran promises, with the gravity of a teenager swearing on his mother's life, that it will not build a nuclear weapon. Status quo on enrichment during talks. Word of honor.
This is the same regime that has spent years arming Russia with Shahed drones that rain on Ukrainian cities, coordinating with North Korea on artillery shells, and running proxies that keep the Middle East in permanent low-grade war. Yet the price for a temporary pause is apparently a blank check drawn on Western treasuries and credibility.
And then there is the Trump angle that makes the whole thing reek of performative degeneracy. For years he screamed that Biden had somehow sent Ukraine 350 billion dollars, a figure that exists only in his own deranged arithmetic. Now the same man is ready to hand Tehran three hundred billion in real money while simultaneously signaling he wants to squeeze Kyiv into a ceasefire that would reward Russian territorial gains. The message is unmistakable: shooting thirty thousand protesters gets you a reconstruction fund. Fighting for your existence against an imperial neighbor gets you lectures about "America First" and endless demands to cede land.
This is not pragmatism. It is the logic of a transactional coward who confuses counterparties for allies and believes every problem can be bought off until the next photo-op. Lowering oil prices by flooding the market with Iranian crude might give temporary relief at the pump, but it also replenishes the war chest of the very axis that keeps Russia afloat. The same people who lecture Europe about energy dependence are now engineering the fastest possible return of Iranian barrels while refusing to seize the frozen Russian assets that could fund Ukrainian victory.
The contradiction is grotesque. Arming Ukraine costs the West a fraction of what a Russian victory would demand in future defense spending, yet we are told it is unaffordable. Handing Iran three hundred billion and legitimizing its nuclear latency is sold as deal-making genius. The lesson for every authoritarian regime is now crystal clear: massacre enough of your own people, export enough terror, partner with Moscow, and Washington will eventually pay you to behave. Temporarily.
Europe should be watching this farce with cold fury. If Washington can conjure hundreds of billions for Tehran while dragging its feet on air defense interceptors and long-range strike capability for Ukraine, then the illusion of reliable American leadership is finished. The only force currently stopping the Russian war machine from testing NATO's Article 5 is Ukrainian artillery, Ukrainian drones, and Ukrainian soldiers. Investing in that fight is not charity. It is the cheapest insurance policy the continent has ever been offered.
Trump's circle loves to posture as hard-headed realists. Realists would recognize that rewarding Iran while undermining Ukraine does not buy peace. It buys the next war on worse terms, closer to home, and with far higher stakes. The moscovian-Iranian axis is not a series of isolated nuisances. It is a coherent project to bleed democracies dry. Paying one participant to stand down while the other keeps advancing is not strategy. It is surrender dressed up as negotiation.
Ukraine has no intention of playing supporting actor in this circus. Our terms remain unchanged because reality remains unchanged: Russia must be defeated on the battlefield, its imperial project dismantled, and its frozen assets turned into Ukrainian weapons factories.
The FREYA system getting Hensoldt TRML-4D radars plugged straight into it is one of those quiet moves that actually matters. These are the same arrays already proving themselves on Iris-T SLM batteries, tracking swarms of Shaheds, cruise missiles, ballistic threats and decoys out to 250 km while juggling over 1,500 targets at once. Pair that with the new Ukrainian FP-7.X interceptor, Kongsberg command logic and Link 16 backbone and you start building something that looks like actual layered defense instead of the usual European prayer circle.
This is not charity theater. It is Europeans finally admitting, in hardware contracts, that Ukraine is the only continental actor currently generating credible air defense know-how under fire. While Berlin debates whether to send another tranche of aid, Ukrainian engineers are integrating German sensors with homegrown missiles and Norwegian C2 on American datalinks. The result will defend Ukrainian cities today and, if the EU ever grows a spine, could anchor a pan-European shield tomorrow.
Because the math has not changed. Every ruble Moscow spends replacing lost glide-bomb carriers, every Iranian drone it begs for, every North Korean shell it burns is a direct subsidy extracted from its collapsing petro-state. Arming Ukraine to intercept that trash over our territory is orders of magnitude cheaper than letting the same regime roll the next border once it finishes digesting whatever scraps it can still seize. The Kremlin does not do "security concerns." It does serial predation. History from Budapest to Grozny to Kyiv proves it every single decade.
The isolationist crowd in Washington and the useful idiots still whispering about "negotiated settlement" love pretending delay equals wisdom. It does not. It equals higher body counts, larger reconstruction bills, and the next NATO member staring down the same hybrid assault we have lived with since 2014. Trump and his entourage of Vance, Gabbard, Gaetz and the rest simply accelerated what was already visible: segments of the American right have traded Atlanticist realism for Kremlin-adjacent transactionalism. They call it America First while gutting the very forward defense that keeps American cities from ever needing their own FREYA equivalents.
We do not need lectures from them. We need radars, missiles, production licenses and political courage to use frozen Russian assets for exactly this kind of program. Ukraine is not asking to be saved. We are building the architecture that keeps the next war from reaching Warsaw, Berlin or Paris. The contracts signed at Eurosatory are proof we will keep doing it with or without the slow learners. But the slower Europe moves, the more of our people die holding the line that also happens to be theirs.
The imperial project in Moscow only understands cost. Raise that cost every single day, on the battlefield, in the factory, in the sanction ledger and in the information space. Anything less is just waiting for the next invasion while pretending diplomacy still works on a regime that openly says all of Ukraine is its property. It does not. And the faster we make that truth expensive for them, the sooner the rest of the continent can stop living on borrowed Ukrainian time.
The CREA numbers for May 2026 are brutal in their clarity: Russia is pulling in roughly 726 million euros a day from fossil fuels, with China and India vacuuming up 90 percent of the crude alone. Beijing and New Delhi get fat discounts, flip some of it, and keep the Kremlin’s war ledger in the black. A quarter of Moscow’s budget still floats on this blood money. Everything else, the endless Western talk about “smart sanctions,” is mostly theater while the shadow fleet sails on.
The only thing that has ever moved the needle is Ukrainian long-range strikes on refineries, ports, and storage. Kinetic sanctions do not wait for Brussels consensus or Indian diplomacy. They burn every single day. The rest of the so-called pressure campaign has one glaring hole: Europe itself still buys 2.3 billion euros worth in May, including a billion in LNG that somehow escapes every moral lecture about “energy security.” Turkey processes Russian products like it is running a laundering service for diesel. Saudi Arabia buys fuel to free up its own barrels for higher prices. Everyone is complicit, just at different margins.
This is not complicated geopolitics. It is simple cash flow. Moscow cannot sustain attrition warfare if its daily revenue collapses. The regime’s only real vulnerability is the physical destruction of its export infrastructure and the secondary sanctions that raise insurance and shipping costs to the point where even the shadow fleet starts to bleed. Everything short of that is performative.
And spare me the diplomatic fantasies. China and India are not going to suddenly grow a conscience because some EU diplomat waves a strongly worded note. They buy discounted enemy fuel while Ukrainian cities eat glide bombs. The math is merciless: every barrel they take is another few dozen shells landing on Ukrainian positions. Lower global energy prices are the only non-military lever that actually hurts Moscow, yet nobody wants to coordinate the obvious hammer.
The conclusion writes itself. Ukraine’s strikes on oil infrastructure are not “escalation,” they are the cheapest and most effective form of European self-defense currently available. Every refinery hit is money Moscow cannot spend on new meat assaults. Every port strike is a tanker that thinks twice. The West can keep pretending sanctions are working while the CREA spreadsheets show the opposite, or it can stop moralizing and start multiplying the only pressure that has ever worked: sustained, deep strikes on the financial aorta of the aggressor.
The longer Europe treats Ukrainian long-range capability as a political football instead of a strategic asset, the longer Russian oil dollars keep buying Iranian drones, North Korean shells, and Chinese machine tools. This is not aid. This is collective defense with someone else’s blood and our own money on the line. Time to stop lying to ourselves about how “targeted” our measures are when the daily revenue figure is still obscene.
The only language Moscow understands is lost revenue and lost capacity. Everything else is just noise that lets the aggressor regroup.

No good news for the Russians.
By refusing President Zelenskyy’s offer for direct peace talks, Putin lost his chance to get out of his failed war.
Things will only get worse for Russia. Battlefield losses will continue to grow. Failures will get more humiliating.
The economy will plunge deeper into recession. More jobs will be lost, taxes will be growing, and inflation will hit those most vulnerable.
There are already no safe places in Russia that can be exempt from Ukraine’s long-range sanctions. But their intensity will continue to grow.
The international pressure will not ease. It will only get stronger. Including the use of frozen assets, travel bans, and inevitable accountability for crimes.
All of this because the fanatic in the Kremlin wants to keep in power at any cost and is ready to sacrifice his country’s future and kill millions of people for his insane delusions.
All of this because he doesn’t want to admit a simple truth: he will never achieve his goals on the battlefield and he better abandon his delusional hopes of Ukraine collapsing soon, support from its partners waning, or pressure on Russia easing.
Russia will still have to accept a diplomatic solution but the terms will be far worse.
Putin’s refusal of peace should lead to a significant increase in international pressure on Russia and support for Ukraine.
