Controversial influencer Andrew Tate and his brother Tristan were arrested in the US on Saturday evening after British authorities issued 38 new charges against them. The total number of charges against the brothers is now 59, police said. The alleged offending is said to have taken place between July 2010 and August 2017.

The UK's Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said Andrew, 39, is being charged with seven further counts of rape, as well as charges relating to sex trafficking and indecent images of a child. Tristan, 37, faces two counts of rape and three counts of arranging or facilitating trafficking for sexual exploitation. The CPS said the charging decisions followed receipt of further evidence from Bedfordshire Police and bring the total number of alleged victims in the case to seven. "These charging decisions followed receipt of a further file of evidence from Bedfordshire Police," Malcolm McHaffie, Head of the Special Crime Division at the CPS, said.

Following their arrest, prosecutors will begin legal proceedings to extradite the dual British-US citizens to the UK. The US Marshals confirmed to the BBC that the Tates had been taken into custody. A lawyer for the brothers, Joseph McBride, said "the world knows Andrew and Tristan are innocent" and described the new UK charges as a "political hit". Lawyer Matt Jury, who represents several alleged British victims of Andrew Tate, welcomed the charges and said: "It is time they face justice".

I am deeply saddened by the reported loss of 16 lives in an accident near Touwsrivier in the Western Cape that involved a bus carrying 73 people, 20 of whom were injured.

Along with a crash near Beitbridge where a bus driver died and passengers en route to Zimbabwe were injured, the Western Cape incident is a tragic reminder for all of us to exercise the greatest caution on our roads.

I feel for the families who have lost loved ones in these incidents and I pray for a speedy recovery for the injured persons.

It is our responsibility as pedestrians, cyclists, motorists, passenger and cargo drivers, and transport owners to protect lives and ensure that our roads remain lifelines that connect us socially and economically, and not so-called death traps - all of which depends on our behaviour.
