“I will not give birth to a life that will discriminate against my gender. My own flesh and blood must not become a blade and turn against me. If the world born from my body oppresses me I will not let that world exist.”
Remembering how when my Mum left, my Dad still didn't learn to cook or do anything else she'd been doing solo all those years.
I quickly taught myself to cook at age 10, using books from the library, as soon as I realised that every meal with my father was going to be a bag of frozen sausage rolls, plain toast, or nothing at all. By 13, I was cooking meals for him too.
And that's how male incompetence trains women.
“There is love at home.” Those were the exact words that came out of my mouth the moment I stepped into the venue for our program. Within just 2 days of the retreat, @AshokaAfrica already felt like home, like I was a part of a huge family.
I'm so grateful for this experience! 💙
