Perfect example of scripture taken out of context. What Jesus was saying is that those relationships could be at odds because some will choose Him and some won’t. The sword is the Word of God (the truth). It naturally separates those who are awakened to life from those who choose to remain asleep in death. In dying those asleep will die. You’re not meant to, but this life is about choosing.

Just as you’ve chosen to harden your heart and will now likely choose to call me names, tell me to shut up, or some combination of both.

God doesn’t separate families, He restores them.
