Letting people exist within their identity costs zero dollars and affects you none.

But he's exhibiting classic signs of internalized homophobia:
1. Easily provoked when talking about LGBTQ+ topics
2. Projecting negative emotions onto others for zero reason (aside from blind hate)

I get it you know, I was there once too. Not associating with the community, hating it even sometimes.
First step is accepting it and going from there.
