My daughter is 11.
She’s quiet, like me. We don’t talk a lot.
Then she discovered you.

Now every time you play, she sits beside me on the couch and explains your shots like she’s the coach. She tells me why your footwork is good. She tells me when you’re “in the zone.”

Last month after you won a tough match, she looked at me and said,
“Papa, she doesn’t smile a lot… but when she does, it feels real.”

That night was the first time in a long time that my daughter and I stayed up talking past her bedtime about pressure, about trying, about not needing to be loud to be strong.

These were only two sentences that I recognized from the shouting of Calinan National High School where the presidential helicopter landed in connection with BBM’s visit to a 4PH (Pambansang Pabahay Para sa Pilipino) housing project in this part of Davao City. Mga bata pa pero ganyan na ang mga ugali. Aral na aral sa mga magulang na DDS. That’s why this city will NEVER have progress that it should have, being supposedly the “premiere” city in Mindanao.
