@addiema_ Yes! How can we expect prisoners to re-enter society without any help whatsoever in gaining the skills society values, especially when criminal records limit hiring. Without rehabilitation, no wonder they turn to the behavior they knew before.
@Marieetrann I think actions that seem small, like signing petitions, voting for certain people, policies, and bills, and physically protesting can generate conversions and move towards more systematic changes An accumulation of such actions can, even if slowly, help.
Author/prof John D. Inazu wrote that U.S. political discourse can be viewed as "the culture of shut up" or a "change or leave" attitude employed when minority opinion goes against majority values. Is this conducive to living with pluralistic differences? Alternatives? #CUSOC321
Currently writing a paper about rape culture and feeling so thankful for all the social media activism surrounding sexual violence. In a society that often silences or blames survivors, especially women, we are using social media to be heard. πͺπΌ#keeptalking#cusoc321
How is a mental health exam relevant?? It's terrible how victims of sexual assault are treated in general, let alone how male victims are treated. And imagine if the offender was black and the victim white... #victimblaming#intersectionality#cusoc321 https://t.co/8CtBvCGxLM
"Using Racial and Ethnic Concepts" spoke of ways children relate such factors to identity of self and others. If anyone wants a powerful literary example of this, read Chapter I from "Autobiography of an Ex-Colored Man" by James Weldon Johnson. #heartbreaking#CUSOC321
"They hand out free condoms but they can't provide free tampons?" "Viagra is covered by insurance but not birth control?" Thoughts from my classmates while discussing the current relevance of Guilded Age feminist literature. #stillrelevant#CUSOC321
@Amina63607724 @EtherlyTamika@Kelsea_Bre @NinaH0120 @Amina63607724 I agree that one reason is likely the perception of hate. I think people tend to go on the defensive when criticism comes from an out group vs. their own in group. Maybe from the inside it still feels like everyone's on the same side. Less of a threat perhaps.
#CUSOC321 Earlier this month a friend posted on Instagram #monolidsarebeautiful and I think that's an important picture of having "symbolic power" white privilege - When have I ever had to defend my eyelids?
#CUSOC321 Interesting to hear various people's thoughts on the use of "racism" or "racist" as a term. Speaks to the impact of one's definition and how often we aren't working with the same one. https://t.co/teCoRgX9VH
We asked, you answered. When should we call something 'racist'? Here are some of our favorite responses from listeners. (via @AskLeezul)

#CUSOC321 Read a Facebook post observing how we rarely learn about remarkable women in history classes. As Weber would say from our reading, power comes in multiple domains, including the power to "tell the story." When women are silenced, men maintain power. #menbenefitingmen
