PIP IS NOT AN “OUT-OF-WORK” BENEFIT
- Stop talking about “getting people into work”
- The DWP hasn’t worried about “unnecessary assessment” before now
- For “treatment” (if that’s even relevant) we need a properly funded and supported NHS
The rise in school absences coincides with the rise in childhood poverty, mental health problems and longer waiting times for support. The government ‘must reduce the use of sanctions’.
Thank you for this important report @CentreforMH and those who contributed @teamsquarepeg.

Enough is enough. Disabled people are not the problem.
Last week the Prime Minister made a speech about so-called 'sicknote culture'. He also proposed major changes to disability benefits.
Today we're launching a petition in response to this full-on assault of disabled people.
“That’s the thing with true ugliness. It does not come in the shape of a wheelchair or scars. It sits in prejudice, clawing its way into our culture until one day the nice man taking your child’s school photo asks her to hide her hearing aids.”

Where is the reporting about #SEND children who don’t need a specialist setting and are MS kids but MS schools are incapable of supporting/accepting them? @BBCNewsnight not all #SEND kids need a special school so why are you not reporting on this? It’s a huge problem
HUGE NEWS!
United Nations & World Health Organisation new report stating that the medical model of mental health needs to be overhauled; and that psychiatric diagnosis, labelling & pathologising people who are traumatised, abused, in poverty, & oppressed impacts human rights.
Disabled people are among the worst hit by the cost-of-living crisis.
@RishiSunak could have used his conference speech to address this. But instead of offering support, the Prime Minster wants to make life harder for disabled people receiving benefits.

However, there are 16 million disabled people but only 427 wheelchair-accessible homes are built each year, meaning that someone could be on the waiting list for 47 years at the current rate of building.
9% of homes in England have only the most basic accessibility features.
I'm so tired of people setting outcomes (tends to be schools) like this "By Y4 X will be able to regulate all emotions in an appropriate way so they can have good relationships with others" . People, do you TRULY know any 8 or 9 year old who is in control of ALL their emotions?
“It will help if you are able to be more flexible, reduce demands, give more time and space around the events of the day, consider putting children’s sensory needs first and to adopt a co-regulation technique”
Brilliant article from @autisticrealms about #autistic burnout.
There are genuinely people in this country who care more about middle class parents not being able to pay their private school fees than working class parents not being able to buy their kids food.
Current school behaviour approaches are failing children. They punish them for having problems, while doing little to help them solve them.
It's time we stopped firefighting with ridiculous, childist carrots/sticks approaches

It's sickening to see parts of the media continuing to generate hate and distrust towards disabled people and the benefits system.
A 4 year old in his 1st week at an English school suffered a head injury after "a secure floor hold" by two staff.
He lost consciousness 😔
He cannot speak
So he cannot "tell"
Head says "he was agressive"
He is 4!!!!
