President Trump is putting $100 million behind U.S. mining education as America faces a shortage of workers needed to power the industry.

Trump says half of the current U.S. mining workforce is set to retire within three years, while accredited American programs graduate fewer than 170 mining engineers each year compared with more than 3,000 in China.

The investment comes as the administration looks to train more American workers and reduce U.S. reliance on foreign sources for critical minerals.
