And another great #sharksandraysseaside class today with THE dogfish enthusiast @SpinyDag telling us about Atlantic spiny dogfish and part of his work studying their distributions in Minas Basin. Students were lucky to have him to explain all about dogfish during our dissection!
Wow it's been a while since my last dissection and I forgot just how fun it is! Happy to play along with students as a TA for a #sharksandraysseaside course @DalhousieU led by @Drsharkbrain Skate dissection highlights: tooth sexual dimorphism, and fully developed egg cases!!
And another fantastic conference by @fsbi2023 at @Uni_of_Essex! Such a diversity of talks and new ideas and was beyond honored to win best speed talk. With 2 fantastic conferences finished, I'm going back to work renewed and inspired!
Almost a month after this conference has ended, and I'm still so grateful to have been able to present to such an amazing group of shark scientists as part of the American Elasmobranch Society symposium. It was also great to see some new and some familiar faces + visit the USA!

Time for a moment of chill, courtesy of a whale shark we spotted in the Red Sea. Speaking of spots, each whale shark has a unique constellation of spots that can be used to identify different individuals.
Thanks to @OceanTracking for hosting an awesome symposium last week! Finished off with some great ECR workshops on keeping your data organized, creating your own stats packages in R and scientific illustration ... and even trusting us to drive some ROVs in @DalhousieU's aquatron!
What an amazing conference @SharksInt2022 I'm getting back to my work with renewed intention and enthusiasm thanks to all the inspiring presenters and people! I don't think any of us wanted this conference to end even after the lights were out. Only 4 years till next time!
The @SharksInt2022 delegate body!
Numbering >580 with our online delegates! So much #sharkscience in one place - it was awe-inspiring.
Thank you all for your enthusiasm - see you in Sri Lanka!
Almost time for me to head to Valencia to present my poster Sharks from Space: Using Remote Sensing to Map Shark Nursery Habitat over Decades @SharksInt2022 Looking forward to spending another week obsessing over sharks and I hope I see some of you there!
Iβm looking for a Masters opportunity to study biodiversity, conservation, global change biology, functional or trophic/metabolic ecology of coral reef or deep-sea fishes. Let me know if any opportunities float by your feed!
