@MissFarrell_2nd This info graphic answers the question you asked about ways to build relationships. I hope it is helpful to you before winter break. Something I have done with my students is random act of kindness and made posters for around the school with kind messages.

Students don't get much out of copying hw and tests. Metacognition and retrieval are powerful tools. In this article the teacher incorporates thesetools into his classroom. How might we commit to implementing these practices and do away with HW and tests?https://t.co/4fakm5vywv
How can we teach that poor grades don't indicate failure, but rather that we haven’t found the correct learning strategy? Enter research. https://t.co/YkfqEoMPEi #assessment
Metacognition is essential to student learning. Metacognition put simply means "thinking about your own thinking." Below is the Metacognition thinking frame for students to use while reading, its effective at defining what "real reading is." #Reading#edutwitter#Read
Journaling is engaging and an important part of learning early writing skills. Instead of only using mind maps or just writing paragraphs remember an effective writing prompt is to ask students to draw and label their drawing. Just check out the example below! #writing#education
Writing < Students being able to self assess how they are doing with their writing skills. Its okay for everyone to be at different stages in their writing process. I use this chart with students when we are writing and it demands many revisions. #WritingCommunity#EDUcators
These are examples of ways that students take charge and track/monitor their own progress. I know many teachers use Razkids so I included the example and a blank template. There is also examples for math goals and reading fluency. Students feel so empowered and engaged

Kindness is contagious. My principal as been talking about the effects of kindness and the science to back it up. Studies have found that this natural high makes people want to behave more altruistically towards others. #KindnessMatters https://t.co/EB3rGPH4G8
Everyday I do 20 minutes of creative writing time. This is a time when students know that spelling, punctuation, capitals and lowercase letters don't matter, what matters during creative writing time is their ideas. 20 minutes makes a difference!

@Mr_Meals I believe that you are right and that if we want more learning to happen we don't need students to be in school longer we need the time they are in school to be more impactful. I think you nailed it, we need to work as a team to create learning experiences that are more effective
@edutopia: A huge part of what makes this school successful is the collaboration/intentional planning amongst teachers towards a common goal. I wonder if they have considered students tracking their own progress, this has been hugely engaging for students at Spring Lake Park, MN

I teach summer school or "summer of STEM" in our district. I can't help but feel that students time would be better spent engaging in free play with others and trying to practice reaching self-directed goals #LDT622D1
Thanks for sharing Maren I plan to try a few of the new ideas listed as well. Some of these would be real time savers if I learned to use them well. #ldt622D1 https://t.co/ijpJiILhlF

Hand written notes are important to processing information and retaining it. I think the video on this page is also really interesting and includes a review on many different tech tools to allow for hand written notes to be stored digitally. #LDT622D1

Today I did some learning with my colleagues in my district around mathematical mindsets. This article aligns with the theory I discussed today. A big takeaway is to have a growth mindset about your own math abilities as a teacher as well! #LDT622D1

I am not surprised that students were able to do any of the tasks in this article, students are very capable, as the article says "They were born with technology in their hands.” #LDT622D1
