On Sept. 18, the target slot time dropped from 300ms to 250ms, marking the third speed-up since August. The important part is that this doesn’t mean higher overall throughput, since the compute and data capacity per slot are reduced proportionally.

This is the third step of SIMD-0525, taking Solana from its original 400ms slots to 350ms, 300ms, and now 250ms.

The final target is 200ms, but there’s no mainnet date yet. Validators need to keep block skips stable before that happens.

Chainalysis also reported a 440% rise in daily onchain writes carrying malware commands and C2 information.

The interesting part is that AI is becoming useful on both sides. It can find vulnerabilities faster, but it can also help attackers search for them.
