She could tell he was confused, he was sleeping in the litter box & crying all the time, he had separation anxiety, & was sick. Did she take him to the vet? Nope. She let him outside “to go die in the woods” so she wouldn’t have to pay the vet’s bills for end of life care.

If pain steals her appetite she’ll be 100% fine not eating that day. She’s not a frail Victorian child who’ll succumb to consumption if she doesn’t eat.
