@AldenBrien I wasn't taught it either, and tried to learn via pattern instructions, but they only left me more confused. I wept over my seam ripper so many times before taking some beginner apparel classes at a local fabric store.

@AldenBrien @Uri should add that I used the pro gear to digitize Japanese patterns for my personal use! lol. never worked for anyone trying to commercialize those patterns.

@AldenBrien @Uri so much extra work for the average consumer! I'm lucky that I was professional for a number of years and had access to a digitizer. so much easier to just click around the lines you need and then fix in gerber or optitex

@AldenBrien @Uri I also wrote sewing instructions/tech packs for manufacturing and it was usually more for order of sewing operations to make it easier/more efficient. much more intuitive.

@AldenBrien @Uri and having been on writing side of sewing pattern instructions, I say DO AWAY with them. having to write "match notches" is just pandering given that no one is successfully out there learning to sew by following a pattern instruction (are they!?)
