Why do I care so much about Karen? My Mom's name is Karen, and she means the world to us.

Degrading real birth names should not be an acceptable thing to do.

But basically, it's used to try and shut women up.

I've even seen videos from men, creating situations where women stand up for themselves just so they can show it and label her a karen.

Last week I signed books for three women named Karen and we discussed how their name has somehow become a watchword for entitlement. The whole "Karen" thing is petty meanness cloaked under the self-righteous mantle of punching up. It's hurtful to real people and it should end.

"Amber is the new Karen", according to the internet. It is sad that people don't even stop to think about how this affects the people who actually have the names they're throwing around like trash. These images are so juvenile. Why is shaming names so easily accepted by society!?

You know how many men are starting to sarcastically call their wives/girlfriends ‘Amber’ or ‘Miss Heard’ when they are upset or angry?

I keep getting messages and comments from women saying this is happening to them in arguments with spouse or exes.

The damage is done.
