Earlier today, the Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) signed Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with Obwen’engo bwa Bugwe and Tieng Adhola cultural institutions to strengthen the production and use of official statistics in advancing their development priorities.

The agreements will promote the systematic collection and sharing of administrative and community-level data to inform evidence-based planning, policy formulation and the monitoring of development programmes.

Dr Mukiza emphasised that quality administrative data is critical to national planning and urged the leaders of the two cultural institutions to ensure that data generated within their communities is accurate, timely and relevant to national development priorities.

He added that the data would support efforts to address challenges such as; poverty and violence against women and girls, as well as facilitating the monitoring and evaluation of Government programmes and interventions.

In his remarks, the Prime Minister of Tieng Adhola Cultural Institution, Obbo R. Josel, commended UBOS for its leadership and the successful conduct of the National Population and Housing Census 2024. He noted that the MoU provides an opportunity for the institution to participate actively in ensuring that information about its population is accurately captured and regularly updated.

“The Tieng Adhola Cultural Institution is committed to working closely with UBOS to strengthen data collection and ensure that reliable statistics are available to inform planning and development within the community,” Mr Obbo said.

Representing Obwen’engo bwa Bugwe, Deputy Prime Minister Charles Wadenya appreciated UBOS for creating an enabling environment through which the cultural institution can regularly generate and use information about its people.

“The signing of the MoU is an important milestone that will enable the cultural institution to participate more actively in the generation and use of statistics for planning and development,” Mr Wadenya said.

Earlier this week, the Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) commenced a week-long pre-retirement workshop for its second cohort of staff aged 55 years and above at Kabalega Resort in Hoima.

Held under the theme, “Preparing for a Fulfilling Post-Retirement Life,” the workshop is supporting participants to reflect on the transition from active service and prepare for the next chapter of their lives. The workshop, which commenced on 3rd August and concludes on 8th August 2026, focuses on emotional and psychological well-being, guidance for successful retirement, and the key elements of a happy and fulfilling post-retirement life.
