I've been told to leave Labour conference. When I asked why, I was informed a complaint had been made about me in writing about an incident.
I was told I could appeal the decision, but they couldn't tell me who'd made the complaint, or why. So, appeal what?
@tribunemagazine Anyway, no discussion of our own mythologies of WW2 makes sense without the European context and especially the ways East Europe has been reformulating its authorised histories - so it's cool to be published alongside this excellent piece by @Emily_Coatman https://t.co/MMwf5NCUAG
These countries need to define themselves and their national goals — and replacing inconvenient histories with a simpler nationalist narrative is an easy way to do this.

From Eastern Europe to the Middle East, the legacy of the Holocaust has been used to denigrate left anti-fascism and promote the interests of ethno-nationalist establishments. But we should remember who really killed the ‘Judeo-Bolsheviks’ of World War II. https://t.co/vWjb3vot70
Chekhov, Lermontov, Dostoevsky, and Pushkin are regarded by these women as the greatest enemies of the Ukrainian national idea.
They tear books apart with enthusiasm, perhaps believing that this barbaric ritual will somehow improve Ukraine’s position on the battlefield and protect them from Russian rockets.
“Defending the homeland” is taking on the contours of madness—madness applauded by millions radicalized by hatred and helplessness.
5. Some people are saying: "it's a plan to consolidate farms/hand them to Blackrock". No, it's just sheer bloody uselessness on the part of a government that places its arbitrary budget objectives above everything else, including basic fairness and common sense.
The airbrushed picture of an attractive young woman cavorting in her pyjamas promoting the #leadbeaterbill should be replaced by a picture of Cyril Tooze.
Terminally ill Mr Tooze was told he would wait 10 months for home care in Australia. He couldn't afford both rent and private homecare. So he was assisted to die in South Australia where Voluntary Assisted Dying is legal.
This is the reality of #assisteddying. Not so much a choice but a desperate act when faced with dwindling options. Like suicide often is.
Kamala Harris will win comfortably, because:
• Biden’s admin has been solid
• Trump’s lost ground since 2016
• The young Black male votes which Trump needs didn’t turn out in 16, 18, 20, or 22
• Young women like Kamala + vote
✴️Ignore polls—they’re herding, after past misses
"In other words, if you don’t reproduce you’d better produce, and vice versa." Great review of 'Mother State' by @AnnaCoatman in Frieze today. https://t.co/kQmtrVqQs4
I am so moved by, and grateful for, @AnnaCoatman's review of MOTHER STATE in @friezeofficial. 'I bring this subjectivity to my reading of the book'. https://t.co/lFeS8MnP8H
HAPPENING NOW: Police are arresting hundreds of Jewish protesters, dragging them out of a sit-in on Wall Street by their arms and legs. It's almost like the US funding and arming Israel is not about protecting Jews, but about something else...🤔
I am terrified of @kimleadbeater's #AssistedDyingBill. Mum has Alzheimer's, Dad died in pain from shoddy cancer treatment but I do not trust a system that put unauthorised Do Not Resuscitate orders on people with learning disabilities during Covid to protect my daughter's life 🧵
Nobody is forcing this old blowhard to do anything. What is true is that government is no longer paying farmers for being lucky enough to own land. Now, if you want money you have to provide something for it: cleaner land; nature friendly land: or cleaner rivers etc. I love it.
