For my research this semester, I am highly interested in looking into the training, or lack of training, that tutors receive for working with ESL students. I developed this interest because of my passion for learning about opposing cultures. I am eager to learn more. #UMWRIT301

@catherinkaufma From the beginning of this course, I have found this very interesting. I think the first article was trying to show that writing centers are trying to work within to change the common believes people have about them. It was interesting to compare various centers for this aspect.

@gabby_writ301 The marginalization concept that Carino used was something that really caught my eye as well. I felt like this defensive stance put a lot of pressure on the tutors to perform in specific ways.

One aspect of our reading that has really caught my attention was the amount of pressure the tutors in writing centers can feel. "..Must inform without confusing, educate without condescending..." were the some of the words Carino (2002) used to describe it. #UMWRIT301

"Habits of the Creative Mind" informs readers that everyone is going to form ideas and stance about different topics. However, it is important that people still form their own ideas and stances while still acknowledging those of others. #UMWRIT301
