Watch carefully the magic that occurs when you give a person enough comfort to just be themselves. - Atticus
@JustinMcElroy My husband's biggest laughs come from listening to your podcast(s). Keep up the good work, and let that nastiness be water off a duck's back.
Peace to you.
A sentence I've said way too many times this week:
"If your child can understand Eternal Conscious Torment/God getting mad and flooding the earth and killing all but one family/the slaughter of the Egyptian firstborns, then they're old enough and mature enough to read Maus."
What I just heard in my bathroom at 1am:
*Toilet flushes*
My husband: Wow, isn't that neat?
Our six month old kitten, who has presumably been with him the whole time: *mews in agreement*
2017 me: Turabian style? When am I ever going to use this?
Me, tonight: *helping my husband figure out how to format his Turabian paper for a class* ...oh.
A note to vaccine-hesitant WECs who are afraid of the vaccine being a bioweapon:
Even if it is (it's absolutely not), Self-preservation is NOT a fruit of the Spirit, and neither is Fear or Conspiracy or yelling at people that they're making a terrible mistake and might die. ✌️
Twitter has been going on for over 2000 years. Just look at this verse in the Bible:
The assembly was in confusion: Some were shouting one thing, some another. Most of the people did not even know why they were there.
-Acts 19:32
I don’t have the energy left to deal with a theology that STARTS with “you’re a terrible person in need of salvation”.
*My* theology STARTS with bein created in the image of a good God, & then wrestles with what it means to inhabit a broken world redeemed by, for, & to that God.
A man once told me that the animal kingdom was proof that God ordained tradition gender roles because the males are always dominant and the females always submissive.
I brought his attention to Black Widows and Gay Male Penguins.
What other “subversive” animals did I miss?
Reminder: Your nation's flag is not a symbol of the Christian faith. Someone should write a beautiful liturgy for the removing of national flags from Christian sanctuaries. And a hymn to accompany it. Thanks for coming to my TED talk.
It is not Christian Nationalism to love your country.
But questions about patriotism for Christians do not exist in the abstract, and for Americans they are inevitably affected by our history of disordered love of nation. We have to know ourselves to know where to correct.
