[Breeding Waders EIP Project @BreedingWaders]

Back In July, with assistance from the Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust (WWT), we fitted GPS tags to a sample of our Headstarted Curlew, prior to releasing them back into the wild.
Below is an example of some of the data we have been able to capture.
The bird in the photo is fitted with one of these GPS tracking tags, it also has a blue ring on its right leg and a yellow ring, displaying letters, on its left leg. After spending time around the area it was released, this bird has recently joined a flock of Curlew and migrated around 100km to the west coast!!!.
This tracking technique, with Headstarted Curlew, has never been used in Ireland before and will play a vital role in our efforts to save these birds from extinction as a breeding species in Ireland. Knowledge is the Key.

The unmistakable hustle and bustle of an Irish Gannet colony in summer. Our largest seabird and one of the most beautiful, too, with their wonderful lemon-yellow crowns and powder-blue eye-rings. Gannets are specialist fish eaters and can dive from heights of up to 40 metres!
