True leaders are the only ones who leave the cave. These leaders go back to the cave once they leave because it is their moral duty. Socrates wanted to continue to practice philosophy to spark restlessness of reason within his fellow citizens. #I2E21
Socratic ignorance is the ignorance of things concerning ethics, morality, and values. Socratic wisdom is being aware that you have ignorance. Socrates is the wisest because he is the only person who is aware of his ignorance. #I2E21
2 parts of the calculative intellectual excellences is technical expertise and wisdom. Technical expertise is the ability to produce or create something correctly. Wisdom is being able to choose the right action in a given situation. The calculative part is about action. #I2E21
There are 2 parts of intellectual accomplishment. Systematic knowledge is the ability to reason from premise to conclusion. Intelligence is the ability to discover established premise. #I2E21
@chrisevansipho6 I also agree with this. Everyone acts differently due to their experiences. Men and women go through very different experiences every single day, causing them to have different ideas about morality. #I2E21
The rational aspect of the soul contains intellectual abilities. It includes the executive aspect which has reason and gives commands. Like the non-rational aspect, it also includes the subservient aspect that states that desires can be controlled by reason. #i2e21
The non-rational aspect of human souls are concerned with physical bodies. It includes the plant-like aspect which controls involuntary things like heartbeat and digestion. It also includes the subservient aspect that is driven by feeling and desires. #I2E21
There are stages of moral development. 1st stage is that young children see morality as self-rewarding. 2nd stage is morality at loyalty and conforming to social rules. The 3rd is morality as autonomous adherence to rules. #I2E21
The ethics of care includes maintaining personal relationships, kindness and beneficence, and sensitivity to one’s own needs and needs of others #I2E21
@KelzPag I think the security and the people who were notified, but didn’t do anything are most liable. They were not doing the right thing by ignoring the crowd asking for help. They should have been confirming to the duty of helping out of respect for the moral law. #I2E21
Sentience is our desires, inclinations and appetites. They are subjective. Sapience gives us the ability to make structured plans and lead structured lives. Humans have free will because we have both sentience and sapience. #i2e21
In order to have goodwill, you need more than just doing the right thing. It is not enough yo just conform to the duty. A good will is a will whose action made conform to the duty because they have respect for the moral law. #I2E21
Conditional goods are only good under certain conditions. These can be talents, temperaments, and gifts. If they end up in the wrong hands, things can go very bad. Every single thing you produce with you actions are conditional foods they have no moral value. #I2E21
The corporate conception involves 2 entities which are the individual people and the community. The generic interests conception include 2 types of interests which are the shared interests and individual interests. #I2E21
Special rights is when X has a claim to Y against some particular Z. Special rights are specific to some Z. An example would be paid holidays. You have the right to receive paid holidays from you place of work, but from no one else. #I2E21
The right holder, “X”, has the legitimate claim on “y”. “Z” is the deliberating agent that must respect the rights of “X” to “Y”. The right holder or “X” is known as the patient. “Z” has moral consideration governing how they treat “X” with respect to “Y” #I2E21
There are 3 conceptions of the common good. These include the appeals to the common good, the corporate conception and the generic interests conception. They all interpret the triggering condition and the practical constraints in different ways #I2E21
The common good is different than the greater good. The common good states that we have something in common and morality is supposed to respect or promote that. #I2E21
