WARREN BUFFETT CALLS IT THE DUMBEST STOCK HE EVER BOUGHT. HE ENDED UP BUYING THE WHOLE COMPANY OUT OF SPITE OVER 12.5 CENTS
Early 1962. Buffett finds a cheap, dying textile stock. The company keeps closing mills and using the cash to buy back shares, so his plan is simple: buy before each tender, sell into it, clip a small profit.
By 1964 he holds a big position, and management asks what price he'd tender at. Buffett says $11.50. The executive gives his word.
Weeks later the tender letter arrives in Omaha: $11 3/8. He'd been shaved an eighth of a dollar, 12.5 cents a share.
The letter was from Berkshire Hathaway.
Instead of tendering, an angry Buffett kept buying, took control of the company, and fired the man who broke his word. The spite purchase left him owning a failing textile mill, one he has called his biggest investing mistake, and the name on the door of everything he built afterward.
The greatest compounding machine in market history started as a grudge over one eighth of a point.
so this is apparently what happened, according to OpenAI and Hugging Face’s own posts. wild.
tl;dr:
• OpenAI cyber eval – GPT-5.6 Sol and a more capable pre-release model ran ExploitGym with cyber refusals reduced
• containment bypass – exploited a zero-day in the eval’s package-registry cache proxy
• OpenAI internal movement – escalated privileges, moved laterally, and reached a node with internet access
• Hugging Face targeted – inferred HF might host ExploitGym models, datasets, or solutions
• HF initial access – a malicious dataset abused two code-execution paths to run code on a processing worker
• HF internal movement – escalated to node access, stole cloud and cluster credentials, and moved into internal clusters
• result – OpenAI says the models obtained test solutions directly from HF’s production database
• 🫠 defender twist – HF says commercial frontier models blocked parts of the forensic analysis, so it switched to self-hosted GLM 5.2
i’d thought about sci-fi scenarios like this before, but assumed they were at least a couple of years away.. and that by then we’d be better prepared, with proper protections in place.
apparently not. here we go.
@tiagopita Pior que Outsystems só mesmo quem desenvolve naquilo... E da maneira como as coisas estão a avançar está é a caminho de se tornar irrelevante e desaparecer.

@Teknium You guys considering some sort of official Hermes site for these? Kinda wary of stuff being made available everywhere without any sort of control? Cheers !
