“Advocate for your person and for yourself”: Emma Heming Willis says she felt hopeless after her husband, beloved actor Bruce Willis, was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia.
Throughout her caregiving journey, she says she’s learned to ask for help and prioritize her own health — and she is sharing “actionable, tangible” ideas for other caregivers in her new book, “The Unexpected Journey,” which she calls a roadmap for people caring for loved ones with dementia.
At age 45, one in five women are at risk of developing Alzheimer’s in their lifetime — and for men, that number is one in 10.
Emma Heming Willis and Helen Christoni, co-founders of Make Time Wellness, share how everyday tasks and connection can help stimulate brain health: “We can change this outcome.”

She’s advocating for a bill that would create a registry of Frontotemporal Degeneration cases in NY, for research purposes.
Advocated for @SenatorHinchey's bill to establish a state registry for Frontotemporal Degeneration. It was moving to hear from her and @EmmaHeming about how FTD has affected their families. It's the most common form of dementia in people under 60, yet often misdiagnosed
