Interested in Emergency Medicine? Love trauma🩸Love toxicology 🍄(and a bunch of other awesome subspecialties!) Come to our Virtual EM Info session tomorrow @AlbanyMed @AMCResus 🩺🚑🩼
@sarah_mahonski presents our PictureThis plant app research at #nacct21 We found it to be 82% accurate at identifying genus but did misidentify some toxic plants, like the autum crocus (contains colchicine ☠️😬🌱)
Did you know there are many other smoke inhalation toxins besides just CO and CN? Phosgene, a thermal degradation product of PVC and plastics, can cause severe ARDs 😬😬
Excited to teach about these dangers at #NYCPCC afternoon rounds ☠️🔥 #MedEd
What's on every EM board exam but currently in short supply?!?! Succimer! Dimercaprol! @ToxNyu An alternative for lead toxicity in a pinch is d-penicillamine but there can be significant side effects. Your friendly, local PCC can always help with antidotes and resources #nycpcc
When you hear hoofbeats... think zebras? Senior fellow Phil @philcalogero describes atraumatic rhabdomyolysis from lithium and the Bradford Hill criteria for determining causation #NYCPCC
All medications have side effects but some are worse then others! @philcalogero discusses some of the serious complications of IM ketamine- remember to watch out for laryngospasm (try Larson's maneuver!) and late desaturations @ToxNyu
#nycpcc
Beyond excited that we are officially restarting the NYCPCC Visiting Resident Medical Toxicology Rotation virtually!! 💻

Amazing presentation by Dr. Sanjay Mohan
@ToxNyu discussing a resuscitation for a massive Aleve PM (diphenhydramine/naproxen) overdose!
Remember- diphenhydramine is a sodium channel blocker and can cause a widened QRS. #NACCT2020
Enjoying Dr. Alya Kamani speak about an occupational exposure to acetonitrile which can cause cyanide toxicity and was treated with repeated hydroxycobalamin doses #NACCT2020 Should we also consider using fomepizole too?🤔🤔
Wonderful presentation on the resiliency of poison control centers during the COVID-19 pandemic #NACCT2020
We are always available 24/7/365! @AAPCC @ToxNyu
Thank you Dr. Alvin C. Bronstein, Dr. Arthur Chang, Dr. Diane Callelo @DrDianeC, Dr. Carol Deslauriers, Dr. Dawn Sollee
Excellent discussion of the complexities encountered when treating chronic lithium toxicity by Dr. Phil DiSalvo @philcalogero Check it out!! https://t.co/233axEuydE @ToxNyu #NACCT2020
Super excited for virtual NACCT! Learned yesterday at the AACT pre-symposium that 112-year old curare is still poisonous! Thanks @ETontox @ToxNyu #NACCT2020
Look but don't eat! Bittersweet nightshade contains solanine, a glycoalkaloid, which can cause hallucinations and delirium along with nausea and vomiting 🤪🤢
A Jack-in-the-pulpit I saw on a walk earlier this week. It’s ok look at but certainly not to eat raw- they contain calcium oxalate crystals which can cause a burning sensation and skin blisters.
