The word penitentiary is rooted in the word βpenanceβ. Itβs a place where people like me - people who commit crimes and break the social contract - go to pay their debts to society.
A jury gave me life. The Parole Board released me on my first parole, after seven years in maximum-security prison.
After all my faults and mistakes, Iβm so grateful to be picking up my travel permits and that I βget toβ be on parole until 2073.
How can I not be smiling?
This is your reminder to show grace. Forgive others and yourself. Let go of resentments.
