Today’s important report from @kinshipcharity highlights the unique challenges faced by Black and Asian kinship carers. Our #KinshipCare Practice Guide calls for support that recognises and responds to the specific needs of kinship carers, and recommends that local kinship carers, particularly from minoritised ethnic backgrounds, are meaningfully involved in the co-design of local services. It’s vital that practice and policy reflect these findings to ensure that all kinship families get the support they need.

I hope that @JanetDaby can clarify the status of this vital lifeline for all kinship children. Leaving behind our vulnerable children is a mistake we will pay for in many ways for years to come. Children, especially those who have backgrounds of abuse and neglect, need support to thrive and contribute to society and it is ultimately the responsibility of government to guarantee this.
