Just read this new study on nuclear weapons and public opinion by @MichalSmetana3@Lauren_Sukin and Vranka. In short: Democracies are responsive to citizens when it comes to nuclear use. So far, so good. 🧵

Mamdani was what so many politicians, law firms, universities, media companies, and others have not been: totally, completely, authentically unafraid. That's the only way to defeat authoritarianism.
Big milestone for nuclear disarmament in France!
100 cities and regions, including Paris, Marseille & Lyon, have now joined the ICAN Cities Appeal, urging the French government to sign and ratify the #TPNW.

Me: I like strawberries. Strawberries are nice 😌
The Internet: Wow. So you HATE apples??
And come to think of it I’ve never even heard you MENTION bananas.
You are a TERRIBLE person.
Justice for apples and bananas!!
A nine year long process reached a milestone today.
Brazil🇧🇷 and Norway🇳🇴 tabled its draft resolution in #UNfirstcommittee on the establishment of a Group of Scientific and Technical Experts (GSTE) on Nuclear Disarmament Verification #NDV
One year ago, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution based on the ICJ advisory opinion on Israel’s unlawful presence and demanded that Israel brings to an end, without delay, its unlawful occupation of Palestine by 18 September 2025.
Instead, and in defiance of the UN Charter, the ICJ, international law, the General Assembly resolution, and the international and global determination, Israel is further entrenching its unlawful occupation and presence in Palestine through genocide, apartheid, and ethnic cleansing.
Call for proposals: Non-governmental organisations, think tanks, university-based centres, and other legal non-profit entities are welcome to apply for grants for projects that aim to address the security concerns raised by nuclear deterrence policies. https://t.co/863CAP1mdM
Not "preemptive."
Illegal.
There is no evidence of an actual or imminent armed attack by Iran.
This is a blatant violation of the UN Charter.
It has no legal basis in the right of self-defense.
Now we wait to see how many civilians will die because of this insanity.
#BREAKING
UN General Assembly ADOPTS resolution that demands an immediate, unconditional and permanent ceasefire in the war in #Gaza.
In favor: 149
Against: 12
Abstain: 19
Enough. We demand rapid, safe, and unimpeded access to starving civilians in Gaza.
We have a plan. We have thousands of trucks of food at the border. Let us in. Let us work.

.@UNReliefChief delivering an all timer speech in the #UNSC: "It is bad enough that the blockade continues. How do you react when Israeli ministers boast of it?" Then adds: "The ICJ is considering whether a genocide is taking place in Gaza. It will weigh the testimony we have shared. But it will be too late. Recognizing the urgency, the #ICJ has indicated clear provisional measures that must be implemented, yet they have not. Previous reviews of the UN’s conduct in cases of large-scale violations of international human rights and humanitarian law – reports on Myanmar in 2019, Sri Lanka in 2012, and Srebrenica and Rwanda, both in 1999 – pointed to our collective failure to speak to the scale of violations whilst they were committed. So, for those killed and those whose voices are silenced: What more evidence do you need? Will you act now – decisively – to prevent genocide and to ensure respect for international humanitarian law? Or will say instead, 'we did all we could?'"
Oh nothing, just thinkin about how living in a way that respects, upholds, and assures the human rights of others is how we respect, uphold, and assure our own human rights. Hbu?
1/4 Responding to reports that Prime Minister Netanyahu’s plane was about to leave Budapest, Stephen Bowen, Executive Director Amnesty Ireland noted: “This wanted man can not leave Hungary without travelling through the sovereign territory or airspace of many European countries.
15 emergency & aid workers in Gaza – from @PalestineRCS, Palestinian Civil Defense and UN - were found buried by their wrecked & well-marked vehicles. Our condolences to their families. They were killed by Israeli forces while trying to save lives. We demand answers & justice.
This is Siwar Al-Jamassi just a week ago, joyful that she was about to attend kindergarten for the first time in her life.
Israel killed her, her entire family, and her grandmother—my sister. WHY
I was at Nasser Hospital in #Gaza when it was bombed today. One of my patients, a 17-year-old boy, was killed. He would have gone home tomorrow. If I had been changing his dressings, as I planned to this evening, I probably would have been killed too. Attacking hospitals is a war crime, and it needs to stop.
