1. In the 2020 elections the Northern Region had Valid votes of 897,731.
2. The NPP secured 409,963 representative some 46% of the total Valid votes cast.
3. The NDC got 476,550, representing some 53%.
4. In the Savanna Region, the total Valid votes was 229,085.
5. The NPP secured 80,606 which represent 35%.
6. The NDC however, secured 144,244 representing 63%.
7. In the North East Region the total Valid votes can't was 239,123.
8. Out of this, the NPP got 122,742 representing 51%.
9. The NDC secured 112,306 of the Valid votes cast representing 47%.
10. For purposes of comparison, you need to put all the data together to revert to the old Northern Region before you can compare with the previous elections.
11. If you put the total Valid votes for the three Northern Regions together, it amounts to 1,365, 939.
12. The NPP got 613,311 from the total valid votes cast. This represents some 45%.
The NDC secured 733,100 votes which represents 54%.
13. In the Parliamentary elections, the NPP got 3 out of the 7 seats in Savanna, 9 out of the 18 in Northern Region and 4 out of the 6 in North East. In total, the NPP got 16 out of the available 31 seats.
14. The NDC got 4 in Savanna, 9 in the Northern Region and 2 in the North East totalling 15 seats.
15. The Northern Region was a strong old of the NDC. There have been improvements in the NPP's share of the votes in the Northern Region since Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia came into the scene. Since 1996 when we recorded 39.8%, our best was 2004's 35.6%. In 2008 we got 38.1%, 38.8% in 2012 and 41.3% in 2016. The NPP currently holds 45%.
16. The NPP had 3 seats as against NDC's 9 seats in 1996, 2 seats against NDC's 12 in 2000, 4 seats against NDC's 12 in 2004, 3 seats against NDC's 12 in 2008, 6 seats in 2012 against NDC's 11 and 9 seats against NDC's 9 in 2016. In 2020 elections, the NPP won more seats than the NDC in the Northern Region.
17. It is likely for the NPP to win all the North East seats and others in the next elections and win more presidential votes as well.
18. Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has spent three weeks in the three Northern Regions campaigning vigorously which the response has been massive and encouraging.
19. The Northern Region will be the battle field for the 2024 elections. With Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the flagbearer, the stronghold of the NDC is likely to be a Waterloo.
20. It is out of fear and based on the data and massive campaigning Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and his team are doing up North that has pushed them to launch a campaign there.
