We captured this beautiful moment as Egejurum Onyedikachi and Don-Anele Munachimso arrived at Sam Mbakwe Airport, Owerri, yesterday to a true hero's welcome.

These are not football stars. They are not musicians. They are not politicians.

They are children.

Children who became the world's best in Mathematics in the Primary and Senior categories. Don-Anele Munachimso is also the world's best in Science.

The last literary figures from the South East to receive this kind of heroic public welcome were Chinua Achebe and Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie.

Watching our brightest young minds being celebrated like national heroes gives me hope.

For too long, we have celebrated almost everything except academic excellence.

That is beginning to change.

Education is reclaiming its rightful place in our society, and a generation of children is growing up believing that knowledge, hard work and excellence deserve standing ovations too.

Nigeria has now been delisted from the International Maths Olympiad, whose finals are happening in Shanghai, China, this July.

It is one of the most prestigious academic competitions in the world.

Nigeria can now only participate as an observer nation, while other countries can participate fully.

This was because of the Ministry of Education’s inability to fund students for 4 consecutive years through National Mathematical Center.

It’s a big shame for Nigeria.

For all of you defending rubbish here, that boy, Pellar, is just the poster child for the Olodo uprising.

Let's stop deceiving ourselves. We know the rot has been there for years, and the government has only made it worse by celebrating mediocrity. If you check those defending the APC blindly, you'll understand what I'm talking about. From the top to the bottom, too many people have normalised the Olodo clans

Then you come to X and see the same thing. People are busy gathering followers, tweeting the same rubbish every day with zero original ideas. As long as there's noise, it gets pushed. Quality hardly matters anymore.

Our education has been reduced to a joke. I worked at a JAMB CBT centre for over four years. Every year the results came out and the cut-off marks kept dropping, I just shook my head. In my time, even 200 wasn't enough for many courses. Today, standards keep falling, and we're expected to clap for it.

Look at reality TV shows like BBN, podcasts, TikTok..... everywhere you turn, nonsense is rewarded while substance struggles for attention. We celebrate noise over quality, and then wonder why critical thinking is disappearing.

So yes, the "Olodo uprising" Ycee talked about is real. If you're busy defending it instead of reflecting on it, then you're part of the problem too. Simple.
