I can confirm that this is absolutely true!

Back in 2017, I produced a full radio documentary for the BBC on this issue.

What President Kagame is saying here aligns exactly with what I learned from the interviews I conducted.

On record, a Tanzanian minister stated, “We are very determined to stop the importation of second-hand clothes.” Off the record, he admitted, “This issue is simply impossible.”

Kenya explained that they benefit significantly from the AGOA deal, particularly through their flower business.

Rwanda told us they were determined to stop the importation of second-hand clothes “purely for the dignity of our people.”

President Kagame mentions that he doesn’t know who was campaigning in the U.S. against the ban. Well, I spoke to one of them.

These are some of the most powerful organizations lobbying, with their representatives working to pass these senseless laws and regulations��laws that essentially turn our countries into dumping grounds for their used clothes. And any country that refuses to comply—like Rwanda in this case—gets punished!
