Q6: I will commit to #7 read books by indigenous authors to your children. I don't have children of my own but I can be sure to read these books to the children in my class. We can learn together through the books and questions that might come up with discussions. #shelfietalk
Q5:Now is when the change should begin.We have started by partnering up with the local MAS giving the children time to learn about indigenous cultures/history. We have implemented indigenous children's books in the daycare& educate them to make it more of a reality.#shelfietalk
Q4: Acts 6-12 and acts 62-65 have connected with me personally and professionally because they are something I find I could advocate for and something I want to gain more education in. This is a topic we need to become familiar and open with so we need to learn. #shelfietalk
Q3: They had little to no rights, especially the women. "Children are taught their language is wrong" & indigenous wasn't to be tolerated". I am more aware of what is taken place and this book provided me with detailed in depth descriptions of the issuers they face. #shelfietalk
Q2: How was this even allowed? Taking children from their parents & the government could keep them away from visiting. Little to no rights & the women/kids had less. Lack of education & they were mistreated. This all resonates with me & leaves me with questions. #Shelfietalk
Educating those to make it more of a reality. He is bringing awareness to us on just what had happened. They tried to "kill the Indian out of the child" & were removed from their families ages 6-16. Lost their status, women had suffered with poor health, violence. #shelfietalk
Encourage the little ones to read the last thing we wish to do is discourage them away from it. Show them how magical it can be and find joy in reading. #dontlabelbooks#BECEUNB
