Troops repel ISWAP assault on Gajigana military base, inflict heavy casualties

Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have successfully repelled a coordinated attack by suspected ISWAP terrorists on the Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Gajigana, Nganzai Local Government Area of Borno State, inflicting heavy casualties on the attackers.

Intelligence sources told Zagazola Makama that the attack occurred at about 7:20 p.m. on July 19 when a large number of terrorists, riding several motorcycles and supported by two gun trucks, advanced on the military position, with additional fighters approaching on foot.

The sources said troops of the 212 Battalion detected the advancing terrorists early and immediately engaged them with overwhelming firepower, frustrating the assault and forcing the attackers to retreat in disarray.

A reinforcement team led by the Commanding Officer of the 212 Battalion arrived shortly after the initial engagement to reinforce the position and stabilise the situation.

According to the sources, the terrorists suffered heavy casualties during the failed assault, with several bodies reportedly dragged away by their fleeing comrades.

Two soldiers sustained gunshot wounds during the encounter and were stabilised before being evacuated to the 7 Division Medical Services and Hospital for further treatment.

The military also recorded minor equipment damage, as the body and four tyres of a gun truck were damaged by rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) fragments during the firefight.

Military sources said exploitation of the battlefield would be conducted at first light to determine the full extent of the terrorists’ losses and recover any abandoned weapons or equipment.

They’re clowns. Most of them are support personnel whose jobs have little or nothing to do with combat, yet they present themselves as tactical experts because they take cool pictures with rifles. Then they push uninformed opinions, and gullible Nigerians buy into it out of ignorance and lack of patriotism.

I’m not saying support personnel can’t have informed opinions they absolutely can. But deliberately pushing an agenda for political reasons or out of sheer unpatriotism is ridiculous.

Some of my guys here are actual combat arms personnel, and you rarely hear them talking down on others. I also know Nigerian-Americans who deployed to Afghanistan during the War on Terror. Most of them keep a low profile and don’t spend their time trashing other soldiers.

But somehow, it’s always the guardsman who’s a cook or hospital medic that suddenly knows more tactics than everyone else. Rubbish.

I’ve written about this before.

One of the biggest limitations in dense forest operations is the canopy. Once the tree canopy closes, it becomes extremely difficult to maintain visual surveillance of what is happening underneath. An EO camera cannot see through leaves. Even thermal imaging has limitations because vegetation absorbs and blocks thermal signatures. You’re not looking through a transparent roof. What you are looking at are multiple layers of foliage.

That means a drone can fly directly over insurgents and still fail to detect them if they remain under adequate cover.

Abducted Oyo Pupils and Teachers Regain Freedom After 56 Days – Presidency

The pupils and teachers kidnapped by bandits in Oyo State have been successfully rescued and freed.

According to a statement from the Presidency, all 39 pupils and 7 teachers abducted from schools in the Ahoro-Esiele community of Oriire Local Government Area regained their freedom after 56 days in captivity.

During the rescue operation, security forces arrested eight kidnappers, who are now in Department of State Services (DSS) custody, while some others were neutralised.

The Presidency confirmed there was no quid pro quo involved in the rescue. A key terrorist kingpin, whose release had been demanded by the abductors, remains in custody and is currently being prosecuted for his crimes.

Security agencies are expected to provide a detailed briefing on the operation in due course.

One teacher, Michael Oyedokun, was unfortunately killed by the abductors earlier during the ordeal.

This is the car in question. I understand the dealers may have felt you were trying to undermine their business, but from our inspection, that vehicle had been refurbished and, in our opinion, was not worth the ₦10 million asking price.

Among the issues we identified were:

- A manual A/C compressor conversion.
- Evidence that the lower part of the engine had been worked on.
- A replaced head gasket, indicating previous overheating, along with several other concerns.

This car won't have given this client peace of mind

Nigerians deserve value for the money they spend on cars.

Picture Three and Four

By the time we arrived in my FOB, many of the communities these masts had been built to serve no longer existed.
But while the network infrastructure had become redundant, We utilized the abandoned telecom masts structures We turned them into Observation Posts.

Because Delwa sits outside the main Maiduguri metropolis, the telecommunications masts along the corridor were built much higher than those commonly found in urban areas. Their height allowed signals to travel across open terrain and scattered settlements.

The mast in this picture stood somewhere between 150 and 200 feet high. Since we were only taking advantage of the elevation for observation purposes, no climbing harnesses or safety equipment were provided.

So I usually just make sign of the cross and start climbing.
(I got some gloves and jacket at CMS under-bridge for this particular assignment.)

The climb wasn’t for everyone. In fact, it wasn’t something you could simply order a soldier to do. Only a handful of us volunteered for the duty.

Every few levels, you’d stop to rest before continuing the ascent. From the top, people looked like ants and vehicles appeared as tiny moving termites along the road below😅

We had radios, binoculars, and night-vision goggles. We maintained communication with other locations along the route and monitored convoy movements while scanning for potential threats along the corridor.

The night shifts were always the hardest.

The wind never stopped. It howled through the steel structure, and during storms, the slim top part of the mast would bend to the will of the weather. The bolts would creak, and the structure would sway just enough to remind you how far away the ground really was.

There was always someone up there.

Rain o, sun o, harmattan dust o. thunderstorms o, someone was always up there watching.

My first day on that tower was also the first day I saw an insurgent with my own eyes.

I remember spotting movement in the distance, watching carefully to confirm what I was seeing, and then alerting the team on the ground.

I came across the pictures today and I remembered the long days, longer nights, endless climbs, cold winds, and a handful of buddies that I was lucky enough to share seats with, at hundreds of feet above the ground, watching over a road that had become a lifeline for thousands of people.

The story is long. This is just a part.
Now before I write out what is supposed to be an excerpt from a book project that only God knows when I’ll return to, let me stop here.

ISWAP Admits Setback in Nigeria as Foreign Fighter Routes Collapse

The Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) has reportedly acknowledged the growing difficulties facing the group, announcing through its unofficial media channels that all routes of “hijrah” the migration of foreign fighters into its ranks have been effectively closed.

According to the message, the group attributed the shutdown of these routes to sustained military pressure, describing the situation as increasingly dangerous due to continuous attacks by what it called “American dogs and the apostates of Nigeria.”

The admission is being viewed as a significant indicator of the intensifying counterterrorism campaign in Nigeria’s North-East region. The closure of infiltration routes for foreign fighters suggests that sustained military operations, enhanced border security measures, intelligence-driven offensives, and regional cooperation are placing unprecedented pressure on terrorist networks operating in the Lake Chad Basin.

Security analysts note that the development underscores the steady gains being made by the Nigerian government and its security forces in degrading terrorist capabilities, disrupting recruitment and logistics networks, and restricting the movement of fighters across borders. The inability of ISWAP to safely facilitate the movement of foreign recruits into its areas of operation reflects the increasing effectiveness of ongoing counterterrorism efforts and highlights the progress being recorded in the fight against insurgency in the North-East.

While challenges remain, the group’s own admission serves as further evidence that the Nigerian government and its regional partners are steadily gaining the upper hand in the war against terrorism in the region.

If the issue of Amotekun being inducted into the Civil service commission is the only thing I achieved as an individual, I am fulfilled. But I won’t stop here, I will keep advocating for the Amotekun to be elevated by the State Government to operate in accordance to ONSA guidelines to combat insecurity across the region.

State Governors must open their books, for proper scrutiny, by allowing the ONSA train and retrain this Amotekun to a global standard for security operations.
