Add to @Scobleizer's point here - on the Holodeck in Star Trek, things went wrong, but everything stayed on the Holodeck (sorta like Vegas). The challenge with AI is it's not in a specific location. Everywhere becomes the Holodeck - which will be amazing but far more challenging.

No one wants that, do we? I don’t.

So most of us believe in some form of AI safety.

But the way the safety people push their agenda just causes those of is who are trying to build on AI’s to get frustrated.

Plus there is the fact that some of us have a legit need to do work like that. A relative works in counter-terrorism. I have met many others. They need to do work like that to identify weaknesses in our infrastructure to strengthen them.

Even my psychiatrist needs to get around the AI safety guardrails. More tomorrow when I put up a new video with her as she explains why.

The new “RAG” capabilities that are the basis for how @openai’s ChatGPT now works opens up new attack vectors.

I searched for the hours of a haircut shop. To find those GPT visits many websites, collects a bunch of data, then decides what to show me.

That “R” for “Retrieval” could find something that destabilizes our countries. Our way of life.

No matter how this works out we need a new conversation between the safety people and the speed people.

How do we get the Holodeck we want with a minimum of the bad stuff none of us really wants?

The safety people can’t keep holding us back and being jerks to get your way.

And the rest of us have to figure out how to work with the safety people to make sure our society doesn’t go all dystopian.

What are the answers?

I don’t have them all, but I am glad to have a platform where we can talk with each other here.

@dushyanth0102 @Scobleizer Way too simplistic, even for a pre-AI world. Who in the buildings on 9/11 had a chance to "report the human?" In an AI World, the possibility of immediate destruction will be all too real. Google can report, but as @Scobleizer said, there are people with legit needs for this info
