The Emus are a Stage 1 class at Camdenville Public School in Newtown. Our teacher is Miss Kyriakou. Check out all the exciting things we've been up to!
Today we are working on creating food labels for our PBL event! We used our survey data to see if anyone from K-2 had allergies to make sure they are aware of what’s in our recipes.
After our lesson on ‘The Rainbow Serpent’ we made a class brainstorm of what we think Dreamtime means. Students were very creative and shared interesting ideas!
Students are researching about a significant Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person that was discussed in our learning. Each group collaborated well together creating a poster. The end result will be posted soon!
Starting off NAIDOC week with our flag raising and a creative poster made by the Emus! Great to see everyone in red, black or yellow in honour of NAIDOC week. #AlwaysWasAlwaysWillBe
Today we had our hook event at @pocketcityfarms for Project-Based Learning! We found out useful information to help us with our Need to Knows that we gathered beforehand. This should help us start gathering more ideas. We had so much fun today!
We spent this morning measuring areas in our garden for length! We estimated each object first before measuring using 1 metre rulers. We even had a go using a trundle wheel. The Emus had so much fun exploring maths outdoors.
In Geography we learnt about weather patterns identified by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures. The Emus were amazed that there are 6 different seasons. We had fun drawing different pictures to represent each one!
Here are examples of our PicCollages. The goal of the lesson was for students to create a poster that identifies the country, where it is on a map, and examples and names of the currency. Well done Emus!
We are using PicCollage to create a poster of currency from a different country. We researched information to help us put together a poster. Students also found similarities and differences between Australian currency and the country students selected!
Thank you to Start Smart for teaching Stage 1 about saving money and making smart choices. We learnt about needs and wants. The Emus were able to identify more important choices from our session.
We compared historical sources to help us learn about significant events from the past. We used a venn diagram to record differences and similarities. We also used our thinking routine again to analyse a source!
We are focusing on ‘Money’ in mathematics and it was interesting to see what students already know about money. The number talk was student led and they did a great job! This will help us with our learning this week. We also worked out problem solving questions as a whole class.
We identified similarities and differences with our sources from the past and what they look like today. Students did well in finding changes! The Emus are really enjoying thinking like a historian.
Thanks Stage 2 for having us! The Emus enjoyed your PBL products, they loved how there was a variety of games and topics. Students used different methods to help them work out their answers. Great work 😊
We are learning to use sources from the past and to think like a historian! Emus loved this lesson and worked well using the visible thinking routine ‘see, think, wonder’. Tomorrow we will be looking at what is similar and different with our current community.
