Our article in “Water Environment Research” examines how vibration frequency and amplitude affect shear stress on submerged hollow fiber membranes. CFD, analytical, and experimental results suggest surface shear stress may predict fouling mitigation efficiency in vibrated MBR.

Our research group contributed to the chapter “Life Cycle Assessment of Nutrient Removal and Recovery Processes” in the book “Nutrients Removal and Recovery in Wastewater Treatment Systems”, examining conventional and innovative nutrient removal processes within LCA.

A review article from our research group was recently published in Separation and Purification Technology presenting anassessment of AOP–MBR hybrid systems for wastewater treatment, focusing on pollutant removal, fouling mitigation, disinfection, and water reuse potential.
Our new review in the Journal of Water Process Engineering explores nutrient recovery in ZLD systems, showing how membrane, thermal, biological&hybrid processes enable water and resource recovery. With rising costs& stricter regulations, ZLD is shifting toward circular recovery.
The editorial of the Special Issue “Anaerobic Digestion: Towards a More Sustainable Future” which comprises a collection of selected papers from the IWA AD18 Conference, held between 2-6 June 2024 in Istanbul, Türkiye, was published in Water Science and Technology.

Our study, published in the Biomass and Bioenergy journal, investigated the digestibility of excess sludge from the A2O process, HRAS+MBR system, and AGS process, demonstrating that different wastewater treatment configurations influence sludge digestibility.
Today, Assistant Prof. Antonio Mineo from the University of Palermo delivered a lecture entitled “Bioplastic Production from Sewage Sludge”. His insights into resource recovery and circular approaches provided valuable perspectives. We sincerely thank him for his contribution.
Our study, published in the Clean Technologies and Environmental Policy journal, shows that an integrated aerobic granular sludge–membrane filtration–UV disinfection system enables the safe and sustainable reuse of treated municipal wastewater for agricultural irrigation.
