There's a half of the Icarus myth no one tells.

Daedalus gave his son Icarus two warnings:
1. Don't fly too close to the sun; the wax will melt.
2. Don't fly too close to the sea; the sea spray will weigh down the feathers.

Everyone remembers the first. Hubris. Overreach. We tell that story all the time.

The second warning has been completely forgotten. And I think it's the one we actually need.

When I look at students now, I don't see kids flying too close to the sun.

I see kids being held too close to the sea. An education system that doesn't challenge them. That keeps them low, keeps them comfortable, keeps them "safe". And slowly, without anyone noticing, the weight builds on their wings.

The sea doesn't burn. That's what makes it so dangerous.

No, TERFs and other anti-trans bigots don't "just view trans men as victims", it goes much more deeper than that. Especially with transmascs who have medically transitioned a good amount, this idea of them just being viewed as victims doesn't hold up anymore.

@TurtRose My evidence? A teenager ik has been severely ab***ed by teenager romantic partners. Age's not a surefire indicator of morality or immorality. It's, in many cases, a mere number meant to count the number of approximate solar cycles since one's birth.

@TurtRose Hot take: age gaps aren't problematic in and of themselves. Some power dynamics that could be enabled by em are. For example, a 13 yo and a 17 yo have a 4 y age gap and are both teens. A 17 yo minor and a 21 yo adult also have a 4 y age gap. The former's probably less balanced.
