Wait until someone opens their mouth and says they want you clearly, consistently, and with actions to match their words. Please, keep your emotions guarded. Falling in love without clarity is expensive, and the price is often paid in tears, GOOD EVENING.
Update !
I finished this and that was such a long and beautiful letter!
In the backdrop of post-independence Senegal, we meet a Senegalese Muslim woman, Ramatoulaye who has just lost her and writes so long a letter to her sister friend, Aissatou.
In this letter, which I feel is more of an outlet to express herself, our main character delves into different topics: Her love for education, some tradition burial rites which does not make sense, the patriarchal system in marriages where women are passed like objects.
Ramatoulaye recounts her experiences with her now dead husband, how he loved her, and then left her to marry her daughters friend and how she was unable to leave like Aissatou had done in a similar situation, I understood her really, she had 12 children, she was not young again.
This is my second Senegalese literature, after At Night all Blood is Black by David Diop.
Both have been immensely important to my reading journey !
Always remember that women in the previous generations would have given anything to have the freedom of choice you have now as a woman. Always remember that.
