Do not entertain Democrat whingeing about redistricting.

In 2024, 40.97% of Oregon voted Trump. Yet, 5/6 Congressmen (83.33%) are Democrats. One of the worst examples of political gerrymandering can be seen in Oregon HD 5 where primarily rural and Republican voters were drowned out by the SE Portland Metro and Bend areas.

4/6 HDs were drawn to touch the Portland-Metro and infect otherwise red areas with the political leanings of one of the bluest and most communist Metros in the country!

Democrats have so mastered political gerrymandering that they have little to gain by doing more. Republicans have so much to gain from political gerrymandering because they do not do it to the same degree as the Dems.

President Trump was obviously right to challenge and expose fake cases, especially the Mar-a-Lago documents, and New York State’s enormously inflated civil judgment about the value of his property. The Supreme Court made short work of the charges regarding January 6, and every case against him has been dismissed or is falling apart. Given his success in battling Lawfare he is wrong to pursue those he perceives as out to get him. He should not use the enormous power of the federal government to get retribution. It is ultimately lame and self-defeating. John Bolton is not worth Trump behaving like an arrogant, unchecked, narcissistic, spoiled bully.

Blue State vs. Red State…

So I was talking to a friend who just moved to Tennessee. We were talking about price differences in our states. She is very liberal and had just graduated from getting their Masters degree. Their family has always lived in red states.

They bought a house in Tennessee for around the same price as ours in Oregon. I said how our property taxes were $8,000/yr. She was shocked. Her property taxes were $1,500/yr. Their property taxes actually went down 8% in the last 8-10 years. Mine have gone up 27%. I am paying $541 a month more in property taxes alone.

We also discussed schools and she raved about her schools. I’m unable to use our public schools as they are so bad. Add an extra $10,000+ per kid for private school on there. Tennessee also has school choice. Oregon does not.

Now onto gas prices. She was shocked to hear how expensive gas was right now in Oregon… $4.29 a gallon at my local station. Gas in Tennessee right now where she lives is $2.54 a gallon. Every time I fill up I am spending an extra $49 (28 gallons) just because I live in Oregon.

Now here comes income differences… Let’s say we both make $150,000/yr and get paid bi-weekly. $4,356.85 would be the take home pay in Tennessee. $3,854.12 would be the take home pay in Oregon (taxes would be even higher in Mult. Co/Portland). Their take home pay would be $502.73 more on every paycheck. (There is a sales tax in Tennessee and not one in Oregon)

Comparing homeless rates… Oregon has a homeless rate of 48/10,000. The rate in Tennessee is 12/10,000. A lot of people don’t even visit Portland anymore due to the extreme homeless situation. Tennessee has recently enacted laws that criminalize certain behaviors associated with homelessness, particularly camping on public property. A 2022 law makes it a felony to camp on state-owned property, and a new bill mandates the removal of homeless encampments near state highways. Oregon does not criminalize camping or anything really for that matter. There are tents, garbage and camps everywhere in Oregon.

Random costs- Transportation costs are almost 30% more in Oregon. Oregon taxes income disbursements from retirement accounts for retirees, Tennessee does not. Grocery prices are higher in Oregon. Rent is higher in Oregon. Childcare is more expensive in Oregon. Entertainment is almost 20% higher in Oregon.
