Earlier today, Dominion Energy and Duke Energy announced that they are no longer moving forward with the Atlantic Coast Pipeline.
Despite the enduring need for the project, there is too much legal uncertainty to continue.
This decision does not diminish the dedication and support of so many across the region who have worked tirelessly to make this project possible.
We are sincerely grateful for the valuable contributions and support of so many across our region.

"We all know this is a tough economic climate.... Now, perhaps more than ever, we need projects and policies that help get people back to work and generate tax revenue for our cash-strapped cities and counties." - Pres. & CEO, Hampton Roads Chamber

"The environmental community decided to pursue this case instead. And lost. Badly." - Editorial Board, @Daily_Press & @virginianpilot. The facts are clear: @ACPipeline will provide safe & reliable energy with minimal impact on the Appalachian Trail.

West Virginians "are eager to get back to work on this vital project. This decision leads to good incomes for these workers and helps advance the cause of securing our country’s energy security.” - Steve Roberts, president of @WVaChamber

@Scotus "made it clear that, yes, the @ACPipeline can go under that tiny section of the Appalachian Trail, just like more than 50 other pipelines already do. . . . this was a victory for common sense." - Murchison "Bo" Biggs, The Robesonian. Read more:

"Fuels including natural gas, petroleum and coal are vital. Alternative energy simply cannot meet all our nation’s needs. High court justices were right, then, to permit the pipeline to be completed." Thanks to @IntelligencerWV for supporting @ACPipeline!

“The @ACPipeline has been delayed time and time again by political forces largely from outside Selma, outside Johnston County and outside #NC. The Supreme Court decision ends those delays." - Mayor Cheryl Oliver, Selma, NC

People like Catherine who live and work along the @ACPipeline route need it now more than ever. Towns like Pleasant Hill, N.C., are depending on the pipeline’s promise of affordable energy and increased opportunities for economic growth.
Why support @ACPipeline? “It’s also creating jobs everywhere, for everybody. This is creating jobs for manufacturing, processing plants, transportation. It leads to a lot more jobs than just installation of a pipeline.”
- Steve Masterson

Do you want cleaner energy? With half the emissions of coal, natural gas works with renewables to make sure we have reliable, around-the-clock energy. @ACPipeline will provide stable backup power for renewables without sacrificing reliability. https://t.co/GyXE0V1fhB
Why do we need @ACPipeline? “Having access to affordable, predictable, low-cost natural gas for some companies and their business models, could be a real game changer.” – Lew Ebert, Former President & CEO, North Carolina Chamber. Watch the whole story: https://t.co/4ls6YnfDew
“These pipes aren’t just placed into the ground. Why would any company investing billions into a project use any pipe that has vulnerabilities? They wouldn’t.” - Tom McDonald, Letter to the Editor on why we need @ACPipeline https://t.co/dBMts0n0cx
“As the Supreme Court prepares to issue its opinion, it is our hope that the justices will see the decision to halt the pipeline was dead wrong.” – Patrick Morrisey @WestVirginiaAG, on completing the @ACPipeline https://t.co/DBAQEGyV6Z
CO2 emissions are lower than levels set more than 25 years ago when coal consumption was higher. You have natural gas to thank for that. (Source: American Gas Association, 2020)
When the @ACPipeline is complete, land along the route will be restored to its previous condition before construction – if not better. Pipelines are regularly & seamlessly integrated in today’s growing society, with most Americans living alongside them every day.
The US is a world leader in energy consumption, so it’s vital to secure enough energy production to meet demand. Renewables and natural gas are not mutually exclusive energy sources, but interdependent and naturally complementary. Read more on our blog: https://t.co/S09jn6l5WM
