@drnk2nd Overall, European banks have been slashing branches and teller positions. Total number of branches peaked in 2008. Even earlier in countries with more advanced digital infrastructure. Boomers will die and branches with them eventually, the decline rate isn't slowing down.
@rhydy@aramh You can go to all these islands without a passport.
Ireland is not in Schengen but accepts EU/EFTA ID cards.
The others you mentioned are all in Schengen.
@tritlo@DarthSquig@aramh Anyway, this is a silly topic in countries where getting passports is easy and not very different from an ID. But in some, it can be bothersome and a lot more expensive.
The US also have "real ID" drivers licenses, and passport cards (not terribly useful) for flying domestic. 🤷♂️
@tritlo@TizonToma1653@Nethweniel@aramh Airline policies and immigration/customs aren't the same thing though. I used to commute almost monthly between Berlin and Switzerland and I've never had my ID checked.
@tritlo@DarthSquig@aramh Until 2038 for Swiss IDs issued without biometrics before the cutoff (likely 2027). So another decade for my ID which was renewed recently...
@tritlo@DarthSquig@aramh This is false. Swiss ID cards don't have biometrics (we voted against it) and are accepted in all Schengen. And I've been to Sweden, not that anyone checked my ID.
@AldoSterone111@aramh Complete bullshit, there's nothing systematic. In the past decade from Switzerland I've been to France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Belgium, Netherlands, Poland, Denmark, Sweden, Finland by car, plane, or train. I've never had my ID checked once by immigration or customs.
@coop92968@timreay@llallawg I have US measuring cups and spoons but no, everything by weight is much easier. Butter alone makes me avoid American recipes.
@interstatejuche Eurorich🇨🇭we went from communal laundry rooms to washer+dryer in the bathroom or dedicated rooms with a sink and cleaning supplies. Washer in kitchens is rare here. Noise and heat aren't a problem with modern heat-pump dryers. I still hang dry most of my laundry because why not.
@Schlangenmutti It's not OTC anymore in a few countries because of side effects that can be very serious in some rare cases, right?
I got metamizol after a small surgery and it didn't seem more effective than ibuprofen. I stopped because I got typical side effects (red throat, mouth ulcers).
