“Canadian and American Security Agencies are engaged in a conspiracy of silence, to withhold from the world the alien vessel seized in the swamps of Corkery Road, Carp, in 1989.”
12. Real wisdom is not the knowledge of everything, but the knowledge of which things in life are necessary, which are less necessary, and which are completely unnecessary to know.
If you've ever been faced with risk and uncertainty, comparing apples to oranges makes decision making hard.
This video clip is a simple explainer on how an engineer weighs the variable impact of different uncertain forces on a building.

In a vast and uncertain world, bring a lil nugget.
Think about what you know, and what you can do - but don't think too long - go be a helpful nugget.
Bring something small and nice. Send a helpful email. Smile a bit. Encourage. Hope.
Small actions make a big difference.
@MidOfficer@mattgurney Procurement is challenging!
Unfortunately the only way to make it better is *obvious.* We need more pieces of paper with more signatures and a few more policies. Although I'm not 100% confident yet. Maybe we should do a few more rounds of consultation first and then reassess.
@StephenWickens1 It might be worth the boondoggle though:
I can't see the future, but high-speed links between major population centres may be sufficiently beneficial to justify a few years of incompetent P3 pain and budget over-runs.
It's easier to fix mistakes when the first draft exists.

There's a new video from Project Str-Eng describing the difference between stress and strain.
For anyone curious about structural engineering, check it out!
A local engineering firm (Ontario) is making charming edutainment videos teaching about structural engineering.
Check it out and comment your questions so the next videos can delve deeper into the design of structures!

@DerrickSimpson_ We live in Nepean and it takes about 1.5 hours by transit to get to Lansdowne (if the busses come on time).
We used to go to events, but not anymore. There's no parking and the busses are unreasonable.
Structural engineering is surprisingly social. The math hangs out in the middle of a strange community; along with designers, researchers, users, suppliers and a delightfully odd mix of personalities.
The world is a big place. But it's also a wonderful place. #EnjoytheProcess
