@andy_walden@anon_opin One of my old workplaces used to get a couple of the junior staff to give the interviewee a little tour of the place and have a casual chat with them. The boss then asked the junior staff whether the interviewee was someone good to work with or not.
@fesshole If you're 53 and this happened when you were 7, then this event must have been in 1980. That's 2 years before the ZX Spectrum was released. She's right to be suspicious.
@fesshole I once had a visitor who kindly washed up after our dinner. She then proudly showed me the perfectly silver-looking frying pan that previously had a non-stick surface.
@WithAWhy99@anon_opin Maybe look up what hereditary means to understand why. TBF your idea to distribute them across the whole population is a good one. I think the ancient Greeks had a system to select random people to be in their government, a bit like our jury service.
@matthewdoxey@Hazzy2_0@fesshole I was at a Test match a few years ago and managed to lay a bet just as a wicket fell. I did it just to see if it was possible to out-react the betting app, which I did. Only made a quid or two, as I was just seeing if it was possible.
@Chr1sF1@anon_opin Yes, there usually is, and there should be. However I did challenge a council who didn't bother putting any signs up along several roads with single yellows.
@davidburchael@fesshole I did the same thing many years ago. It did seem odd that there were two lanes and the overtaking lane was empty, but the left lane was full and slow. But wasn't going to turn down the chance to get past a load of slow drivers. I did turn my stereo down when I noticed the hearse!
@Chr1sF1@anon_opin That's not a sign for a single yellow line, that's a sign for restricted parking bays on the side of the road. Signs for yellow lines have a yellow background.
@WarrenBonathan@gilescoren Card payments has probably killed a lot of the "keep the change" types of tips which were never large, but added up when everyone did it with cash.
@Ben_42_65_6e@anon_opin I remember getting some at a petrol station near Beaulieu a few years ago, long after it seemed to be gone everywhere else. I wonder if that one still does it? Obviously there's the motor museum there.
@grumpy_vik@anon_opin Sometimes it's just useful to check it's really the person who made the application. I remember someone turning up for an interview who couldn't remember a single thing on their application or CV, as their friend did it for them.
@roypearce1968@anon_opin You said limit the number of cars per household, not where they keep them. If they can keep 5 cars on a driveway then why set a limit?
@roypearce1968@anon_opin Surely it depends on the household, what if there's 5 working age people living there who all need to get around? Why should they be prevented from moving around compared to a single person household?
@theJeremyVine All that arguing about cycling safely and hurling abuse means neither of you are concentrating on the road properly and putting yourselves in even more danger.
