I am an American Veteran. I don’t take anyone at their word. But their actions speak volumes.

The few times I ran low on ammunition or supplies, we withdrew and procured more. One time in particular it was simply to get water from an irrigation ditch. We could hear the celebratory shots in the distance, and their bragging over radios about their victory over the infidels. They were so loud and jubilant, they didn’t notice us re-occupying the area, just in different hide sites. 3 days later we killed them to a man when they had relaxed their posture enough to bring in “dancing boys” as entertainment…

In any event, I doubt very much that Naval vessels are maintaining their positions unarmed. But if you want to believe simply because it aligns with what you want to hear, carry on.
