Here to celebrate all things related to #English literature and language, to share ideas with our talented students @derbyhigh and other English teachers.
Congratulations to our U6 English students. We are very proud of you all and wish you every success in your next steps. Remember that a good book can take you anywhere. Best wishes from, Miss R, Mrs. W and Mrs. S โคต๏ธ
Thank you to @BumblebeeTrust for a fab morning learning all about why bees are important and what we can do to help them. Not strictly an 'English' post but perhaps #nature may inspire you to do some creative writing. Thank you to the lovely Mrs. Hough for organising it . ๐๐๐
Anyone who doubts the power of reading should know there are about 20 bunny rabbits wrecking my garden and theyโd be dead now if I hadnโt read Watership Down when I was 8.
An example of Old English from the poem, #Beowulf. OE was spoken until about 1100. For comparison, Shakespeare's use of English was 'Early Modern'. Listen to this man reading from #Beowulf: https://t.co/xrxcAwyyI9
I can't be alone in thinking it sounds wonderful, can I ?

13/15 marks for this response to the 'evaluate' question. Top band response.
#GCSE#EdexcelEnglishLanguage Paper 2
The candidate could have squeezed in one or two more evaluative words or phrases for 15/15.
One more English exam to go for U5! ๐โ๏ธ
14/15 marks for this answer to the 'language and structure' question on #EdexcelEnglishLanguage Paper 2 #GCSE . Remember that this question is worth a lot more marks than on Paper 1 so you need to make a wide range of analytical points.
@SiobhanKBishop@Team_English1 'A Thousand Splendid Suns' and 'Tess of the D'Urbervilles' due to interesting contextual parallels across different periods...they lead to interesting comparisons in terms of the subjugation of women.
Brainstorming, note taking, research and more: Here's an overview of the most important #mindmapping techniques for students - summarized in a mind map! https://t.co/iJB1hbLdPM ๐ #edu#studying
Many students believe learning English as a foreign language would be easier than French, German or Spanish. Take a look at this and see for yourself...itโs not! @EnglishDHS1
#Linguistics factoid.
#DiscourseAnalysis (analysing conversations).
Previous research by Louann Brizendine at the University of California found that women speak an average ofย 20,000 wordsย daily compared to onlyย 7,000 wordsย for men.
If so, why?
#LinguisticEvolution or annoying ? Read what @DrBrianMay has to say about using 'like' instead of 'said'.
So, I was like, 'Mama, just killed a man'...
And they were like, 'Bismallah, no! we will not let you go!'
And I was like, 'Let me go !'๐

SO letโs talk trivia. Like how everyone has to start a discourse with โsoโ these days ? How long has that been happening? Iโm sure it wasnโt everybodyโs habit 10 years ago. And instead of saying โhe said... โ, or โIโฆ https://t.co/9qsHzocFqF

#Othello quote song for revision. I'm not sure if U5 will cover this in their TOTP performance next year though ๐ #ALevelEnglishLiterature#Edexcel
