English ethnicity is ancestry. Not a passport. Not an accent. Not a football shirt. Not “I was born here” if your line does not run through the English people.

If none of your forebears are English, you are not ethnically English. You can be a British citizen. You can live in England. You can call England home. None of that makes your ethnic group English.

Nationality is legal. National identity is what you feel. Ethnicity is where the line comes from. Those are three different claims. Stop treating the first two as if they cancel the third.
